About the Role
Beaches Sandbox is currently seeking Senior Camp Counsellors to run our 2023 Summer Camp. The position of Senior Camp Counsellor involves leading groups of up to 12 children aged 5-12 for 8-weeks in the summer. Senior Camp Counsellors oversee program planning, delivery, supervision, communicating with parents/guardians, children, and the community, ensuring the safety and well being of all children registered for the program, all while providing a fun, safe, and engaging camp experience. Campers are divided into two groups, 5-8 years old’s and 9–12-year old’s, each group having a senior counsellor, a junior counsellor and multiple CIT’s. Senior Counsellors are required to bring their own ideas, experience, great attitude, and outgoing personality to the camp. Applicants should be organized, responsible, comfortable working with kids and answering any questions parents or guardians may have regarding the camp. Leadership qualities, experience with camp or leading children in a recreational setting, valid first aid & CPR certificate is required. This position requires the ability to commit to mandatory training and an 8-week camp period.
Requirements
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides a safe, fun, and meaningful camp experience for children aged 5-12 years
Plans, develops, and leads camp programming, while following the principles of Healthy Child Development (HIGH FIVE)
Ensures equipment is clean, safe, and ready for participants to use
Interacts with staff, participants, parents/caregivers daily to answer any questions or concerns about camp programming
Ensures the safety and well-being of all camp participants
Follows all Beaches Sandbox safety protocols and procedures
Attends and participates in meetings and trainings
Performs some administrative tasks to ensure programs run smoothly (attendance, incident reports, etc.)
Qualifications:
The successful candidate should possess:
Must be over the age of 19 years
Has previous camp experience or experience working with children in a recreational setting
Has valid CPR/First Aid training and can produce proof of certification to be kept on file
Willing to obtain a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
Must provide (2) references
Post-secondary training in education, recreation, etc. is an asset
Ability to commit to mandatory trainings and an 8-week camp period
Compensation:
$25/hr
Hours:
8:00 am - 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday.
Camp will not operate on statutory holidays.
Camp runs from July 3rd - August 25th, 2023.
