Beginner Beaded Strawberry Workshop - National Indigenous Peoples Day

Learn the basic stitches of beading and engage in conversation about beadwork with beadworker Katie Longboat.

Beginner Friendly – Participants under 16 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

In honour of National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21, Beaches Sandbox has partnered with HOPES Indigenous Training Network for a day of free activities for all ages. 


Join Katie to learn the basic stitches of beading and engage in conversation about beadwork. Katie will share her story, inspirations and current and past work. Each participant will receive a strawberry brooch pattern kit.


We recommend registering in advance to secure your spot. Drop-ins welcome if space permits.


Participants are also invited to enjoy complimentary strawberry drink, scones and maple butter from Catering by Candace (while supplies last).


Beaches Sandbox is an accessible facility, all are welcome!

Katie Longboat

Katie Longboat, Facilitator

Katie Longboat is a Cree and Haudenosaunee beadwork artist from Six Nations of the Grand River Territory in Southern Ontario. Her beadwork incorporates intricate designs, florals, contemporary materials and bold colours to create unique jewelry pieces and beaded artwork. Katie is inspired to create work that is reflective of her family, the natural world, and draws inspiration from both Cree and Haudenosaunee styles of beadwork. Katie currently resides in Toronto.

Activities For All!

Beaches Sandbox offers a wide variety of high-quality programming. Our goal is for everyone to be able to participate in these programs, regardless of their financial status. The Beaches Sandbox Financial Assistance Program is put in place to allow those who otherwise could not afford to participate, access to all programs offered at the centre.
