The Power of Connection
According to the World Health Organization, social isolation and loneliness are “increasingly being recognized as a priority public health problem and policy issue across all age groups,” with an estimated 1 in 4 older people experiencing social isolation.
Positive and healthy social connections are vital to our mental and physical health, as well as our overall well-being.
What Do We Do?
At Beaches Sandbox, we strive to create opportunities for everyone to experience the benefits of community and connection.
How Do We Do It?
We create opportunities for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to come together through fun, high-quality activities that build skills, foster connection, and benefit physical and emotional well being.
We do this by:
-
Offering an average of 5-6 hours of daily programming, creating opportunities for fun and connection through regularly scheduled activities
-
According to the Canadian Alliance for Social Connection and Health (CASCH), 1-3 hours of social interaction daily is optimal for well-being.
-
-
Being a welcoming and inclusive space to connect with friends and meet new people.
-
According to CASCH, the more diverse our social interactions are, in terms of interacting with different types of social contacts, the higher our wellbeing.
-
“Social connection can lower anxiety and depression, help us regulate our emotions, lead to higher self-esteem and empathy, and actually improve our immune systems” - Canadian Mental Health Association
