A Note From Our New Executive Director, Aracely (Ara) Cruz

Hello Sandbox community, 

I’m so grateful to share that I’ve stepped into the role of Executive Director at the Beaches Sandbox — and I wanted to take a moment to say hello, reflect, and share what this place means to me. (Spoiler: a lot!) 

For those who don’t know me yet, my name is Aracely (Ara) Cruz. I’ve proudly served as a board member of the Beaches Sandbox for three years, supporting our mission and watching our community’s creativity and connection continue to flourish. Stepping into this role feels less like a “new beginning” and more like picking up a paintbrush on a project I’ve loved working on for a long time. 

Professionally, I come from the world of People & Culture, where I’ve spent over 15 years helping organizations build spaces where people feel supported, included, and valued. But beyond my HR experience, I’m also an artist at heart. Art has always been an outlet for me — a way to unwind, express myself, and reconnect with joy. I often joke that I’m a bit of a “craftaholic” (LOL), because I can lose hours happily creating with collage, found objects, or anything that sparks inspiration. 

Outside of work and creativity, I cherish time with my family. They’re a big part of what keeps me grounded, motivated, and laughing when I need it most. 

One of the biggest joys of stepping into this role has been getting to know — and work alongside — our incredible staff. The team here is warm, dedicated, creative, and genuinely committed to making every guest who walks through our doors feel welcomed and cared for. Their passion fuels everything we do, and I’m constantly inspired by the heart they bring into this space. Honestly, they make coming to work feel pretty special. 

As we move forward, I’m excited to continue building that foundation — improving the experience for our guests, finding new ways to spark creativity and connection, and ensuring that The Beaches Sandbox remains a place where everyone feels they belong. 

My hope is simple: 

To help the Beaches Sandbox continue to be a warm, inclusive space where community thrives. 

In the months ahead, I’m looking forward to: 

• listening and learning from our community, 

• deepening our programs and partnerships, 

• nurturing creativity and connection, 

• enhancing guest experiences, 

• and ensuring the Sandbox continues to be a joyful gathering place for all.
