GROUPO FOLKLORICO TONATIUH

Tonatiuh was founded in 2002 by Luz Castillo, with the goal of preserving and promoting Mexican folkloric traditions in Canada. In 2014, the group expanded to include a children's section, aiming to instill pride in Mexican roots among younger generations. Tonatiuh has participated in numerous events throughout the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), establishing itself as a key figure in promoting Mexican culture in Canada.

Luz Castillo, a dancer trained at the Mexican Dance School in Mexico City, her dance career began at the young age of 7. Luz had the opportunity to participate in multicultural events across Europe, performing in places such as Mallorca, Spain; Sicily, Italy; and Paris, France, before moving to Canada.

VIVA MEXICO MARIACHI

Since 2001, Viva Mexico Mariachi from Toronto has embodied the vibrant essence of mariachi music. This dynamic ensemble harmonizes trumpets, violins, vihuela, guitarrón, and talented vocalists, delivering mesmerizing performances across diverse musical genres. From prestigious venues like Roy Thompson Hall to cultural festivals such as Ottawa Chamberfest and Hispanic Fiesta, they captivate multicultural audiences with rich melodies and infectious rhythms. With a multicultural lineup including musicians from Mexico, Canada, Peru, Russia, and the Caribbean backgrounds, they are united in preserving the mariachi tradition. Invited by the Embassy and Consulate of Mexico in Canada, they've graced stages alongside Latin Grammy winners like Jose Feliciano and Cafe Tacuba. As they approach their 25th anniversary in 2025, Viva Mexico Mariachi continues to innovate and uphold the highest standards in mariachi music across Canada, blending cultural pride with musical excellence.
